Edit, 8/22/22: Added additional context to Japanese sterilization laws
With the great “transgender tipping point” forcing trans politics into the mainstream and trans people into the spotlight, the campaign of hatred and reaction against trans people has only intensified over the years, with nearly 240 anti-trans bills being proposed in 2022 alone. There are those who have begun to describe the most recent wave of reaction against trans people as a second tipping point, one building up to a genocide, while some skeptics consider this discourse histrionic; they say that it is an overreaction, paranoid, or an inappropriate use of the word. We disagree! Not only do we boldly reaffirm that the separation of trans children from family and criminalization of gender-affirming healthcare constitutes essentially genocidal acts and betrays decidedly genocidal intents, but we’d be remiss not to make the case that it is actually the escalation of a pre-existing campaign of extermination. For context, here is how the UN defines genocide:
In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:
1. Killing members of the group;
2. Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
3. Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
4. Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
5. Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
Our pedantic opposition will no doubt point out that destruction of people of particular genders or sexualities would not, strictly speaking, be classified as genocide under this definition. Very well, we call it a “campaign of extermination” to avoid semantics; the five listed acts of genocide are clearly relavent in the broader context of such a campaign. Although gender and sexuality, as non-hereditary traits, could not be exterminated forever, the ideology of eugenics which compels attempts to exterminate various impure out-groups fails to recognize this simple fact. It matters little: they will still do their best to exterminate a given group as much as possible, to limit its population as much as practicable, to destroy the out-group in whole or in part. And in this regard, we shall see that the five acts of genocide are plainly relevant–3 and 4 most especially, and 5 most recently.
Killing Members Of The Group
Currently, murder makes up a minor but not insubstantial element of violence against trans people; in other words, though it contributes the least to overall causes of death, trans people are, in fact, substantially overrepresented in murder cases compared to our population size. Most murders either go unreported altogether or trans status is left undisclosed, so official reports probably underestimate the actual disparity. At least for those cases which do go reported, BIPOC (black, indigenous, or people of color) transfems and sex workers are the most common targets. Such cases are most often classified as hate-crimes or as domestic abuse–in other words, these cases are predominantly stochastic, without explicit state endorsement. It is, however, occasionally implicitly state endorsed. For example, the gay and trans panic defense, still legal in 35 states as of writing this, excuses the assault and murder of gay and trans people by defining gender and sexuality as characteristics which could cause a reasonable person to respond violently. This defense has been employed successfully in a number of cases. We are, perhaps, in luck that congress has already introduced a bill, the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Panic Defense Prohibition Act, to federally address this situation, but we shall have to keep a close eye on whether this bill ever actually goes into practice, and furthermore we should expect to have to defend it if it does. Fully state sanctioned execution of trans people–what most people think of when they hear genocide–is not likely on the immediate horizon, but we certainly do not consider such a development impossible or even improbable! In the meantime we can and must protect our most vulnerable brothers and sisters from facing violence, whether by johns or by abusive partners, whether state sanctioned or not. Moreover, stochastic terrorism, such as the Orlando Nighclub Shooting, which killed 49 queer people–the deadliest shooting on record ever–and other more recent attempts to target pride parades, drag shows, etc, will require the organization of armed community self-defense programs to prevent. When faced with the development of increasingly bold pogroms against our community, what other choice do we have?
Under what conditions might state-sanctioned executions take place? In our analysis, only once the empire begins to lose its grasp on power, once it requires an out-group to blame for the rise of communist consciousness, only then will the openly terroristic dictatorship of fascism emerge, and only at this point it will it become a prerogative scapegoat transsexuals, whom are already being coded as “neo-Marxists,” a “contagion,” and “symptoms of a collapsing society.” This has concerning parallels to the old lavender scare era, in which homosexuals and communists were conflated with each other, and, consequently, were targeted by the government, blacklisted from federal employment and from a variety of industries. In that transsexuals are not only believed to be symptoms of a failing society, but, increasingly, causes of it, then genocide becomes the likely outcome of a society which fails to address its crises by other means. If you’ve read our article, Racialized Anticommunism And Trends In Anti-Asian Violence, this should sound pretty familiar. In any case, if such a point is reached, if it is not prevented, then any meaningful organization against fascist violence will subsequently have to go underground.
Causing Serious Bodily Or Mental Harm And Deliberately Inflicting Conditions Of Life Calculated To Bring About A Group’s Physical Destruction In Whole Or In Part
Non-lethal assaults (hate crimes), sexual violence, doxxing, and death threats are all major issues afflicting trans people. Coinciding with a hostile political and social climate, those with an explicitly stated interest in provoking trans suicides retain the right to practice psychological terrorism with impunity. Furthermore, the brutality of the police and prison system–torture of sexual, physical, and mental sorts–likewise constitutes another category of violent terrorism: state sanctioned, normalized, and typically under-reported. These sorts of attacks on trans people can not be separated from a campaign of extermination. We ask you: if 42% of any other group of people were so hopelessly miserable that they’d attempt suicide, wouldn’t you begin investigating their environment and conditions of life for clues as to why? And yet, it is all too frequently assumed that we are, just by nature of being transsexual, mentally ill and depressed–that it is an innate facet of our nature. However, readily available data easily debunks this idea. A report prepared by the Trans PULSE Project revealed that, for example, trans youths with supportive parents are roughly three times less likely to have depressive symptoms, over twice as likely to not have contemplated suicide over the past year, and approximately fourteen times less likely to attempt suicide. Another study published in the Journal of Adolescant Health concludes: “Findings support a relationship between access to [gender affirming hormone therapy] and lower rates of depression and suicidality among transgender and nonbinary youth.” According to a recent study, Association Between Gender-Affirming Surgeries and Mental Health Outcomes:
“In this study, we demonstrate that undergoing gender-affirming surgery is associated with decreased odds of past-month severe psychological distress, past-year smoking, and past-year suicidal ideation… The observed associations between gender-affirming surgery, psychological distress, and suicide risk reinforce previous small-sample studies suggesting that gender-affirming surgery improves mental health and quality of life among [transgender] people.”
These are not nit-picked studies, but are broadly representative of the available research and literature on the subject. In light of these considerations, it is abundantly clear to us that social conditions and quality of life are the determining factors in transsexual suicidality and depression. High rates of poverty and homelessness–likewise caused by discrimination–exacerbate these very issues. And in light of all this, we condemn society for what Friedrich Engel’s once called “social murder”:
“When society places hundreds of proletarians in such a position that they inevitably meet a too early end … when it deprives thousands of the necessaries of life, places them under conditions in which they cannot live – forces them… to remain in such conditions until that death ensues … and yet permits these conditions to remain, its deed is murder just as surely as the deed of the single individual… murder against which none can defend himself … because no man sees the murderer … since the offence is more one of omission than of commission”.
Condition of the Working Class in England, 1845
By failing to address these issues, our society has allowed a campaign of extermination to unfold through apathetic neglect. In this light, we argue that we are not only now seeing the possible beginning of a genocide, but, in fact, a pre-existing campaign of extermination which is only now starting to take on a more conscious, active, and state-directed effort–a genocide of commission rather than omission.
Forcibly Transferring Children Of The Group To Another Group
Is it a coincidence that gender-affirming healthcare is being criminalized while trans children are being torn away from one of the first generations of parents prepared to love and support them? Is it merely an accident that two of the biggest factors contributing to trans suicidality are now being inflamed? We assert here it is not! This is indeed a conscious effort to socially engineer conditions to bring about the destruction of trans people! The youngest and most vulnerable among us, our baby brothers and sisters, are being fed into the meat grinder to appease conservative culture war grievances, and we can not sit idly by while this continues to unfold. To be precise, a trans child isn’t necessarily the child of a trans parent the way the heading implies, but insofar as they are being taken away from their loved ones, and insofar as transsexuality is non-hereditary, the situation is certainly related. The foster system at large has been used a mechanism of genocide and population control since its inception, but we will defer on analyzing it in detail for the time being.
Imposing Measures Intended To Prevent Births Within The Group
Finally, let us investigate measures to prevent birth. Such measures vary pretty widely between countries and states. One of the most common measures of this sort is the gatekeeping of legal services behind expensive bottom-surgery procedures. Not only is this fundamentally classist, but insofar as not every trans person will elect to these procedures, it provides extraneous and extrinsic incentives to have them–in short it is coercive. In Japan, for instance, the necessity of having bottom surgery to change one’s legal gender marker is accompanied by an additional, explicit requirement of sterilization (for example, requiring trans men to undergo hysterectomy). Evidently, the laws on sterilization also apply to banked sperm and eggs; in a recent case, for example, one trans woman whose frozen sperm was used to impregnate her wife was denied recognition as the child’s parent by the Tokyo High Court because she had changed her gender before the baby was born. The further requirement in Japan that transsexuals not have underage children when they apply for gender change betrays a belief in the social contagion theory of transsexuality, which has become ever the more popular in recent years due to the British “gender critical” movement and its astroturfing of anti-trans conspiracy theories. All these things, moreover, betray an underlying faith in eugenics, as if transsexuality could be eliminated by removing our ability to reproduce. Of course, transsexuality is not hereditary, and neither can it be taught–but this clearly goes unrecognized by those exercising state power, and won’t stop them from trying. In regard to Britain, their 2004 Gender Recognition Act created the requirement that a trans person must divorce or annul their marriage before being issued a Gender Recognition Certificate–another measure which makes it more difficult for trans people to have stable families.
In our opinion, these facts combined make a very compelling case for genocide, or at least, for what we consider a campaign of extermination. Those who would continue to downplay this accusation in light of these facts, as if genocide would never happen here, remain ignorant, on the one hand, of the (recent!) history of American genocides, and on the other hand, how liberalism gives way to fascism, how the genocidal violence of imperialism inevitably comes home to roost, starting with the most vulnerable, the most reviled, the most dispensable. In short, you’ll have to excuse us for desperately trying to sound the alarm, when such a campaign, if trends continue unopposed, is poised to grow into an unstoppable holocaust–one which won’t stop with the trannies and faggots.
